AROUND THE STATE
ISLETA LAKES: Fishing at both SUNRISE and TURTLES lakes has been very good for catfish. Isleta Lakes will be stocking for the Father’s Day weekend this week. Best baits reported are shrimp, garlic chicken liver, green worms and stink bait. Very few trout have been reported as caught. Our tagged catfish tournament is coming up in July. Carlos Trujillo, Isleta Lakes & RV Park
SANDIA LAKES: Fishing at all three lakes has been excellent for catfish. Anglers have had the most success using various stink baits, chicken livers and worms. We last stocked Tuesday with 7,000 pounds of channel catfish. We will be having a pocket tournament on Father’s Day. Call 505-771-5190 for more info. Cassandra Espinosa, manager
SHADY LAKES: In preparation for Father’s Day, Shady Lakes restocked 1,500 pounds of trout on Wednesday. The Easy Catch Trout Pond is biting on everything and running an 11-inch average. The Big Trout Pond is a moderate challenge with sizes 16 inches and up. We always stock some big lunker trout with each delivery. Bass reports have been moderate as the summer heat comes on, swim jigs and plastics such as frogs, worms and crawdads are your best bet. Bluegill are striking on flies, worms and salmon eggs. The water lilies are up and blooming for bass and bluegill cover. Jan Phillips, director
HERON LAKE: Not much new to report. Fishing is still bad, we’re still getting nice rain showers, water temperature up in the mid- to high-60s and water level is still rising. The Kokanee have not yet started to school and won’t start biting until they do. A few small lake trout have been caught trolling. Don Wolfley, Heron Lake Guide Service
