Judge Tosses Suit Over Santa Fe Studio Deal

A judge in Santa Fe has tossed a suit challenging a deal the county made to help develop a new film studio in Santa Fe.

State District Judge Sarah Singleton ruled the $6.5 million loan guarantee Santa Fe County made for Santa Fe Film and Media Studios doesn’t violate the state constitution or other laws governing public investment in private enterprise.

According to a report in the Santa Fe New Mexican Wednesday, (, the judge said the question was not whether the project is a wise use of public money, but whether it was legal.

The film studio complex south of Santa Fe is set to open in the next few weeks. It includes two sound stages, a warehouse and office space..
