Dodson to fight in UFC 191 main event for flyweight title

Albuquerque fighter John Dodson isn’t just getting his rematch with UFC flyweight chamion Demetrius Johnson. He’s now the headliner for UFC 191 in Las Vegas.

Dodson (17-6), whose only loss since 2009 was a decision to Johnson in the main event of the UFC on Fox fight card in Chicago on Jan. 26. 2013, will fight Johnson (22-2) in the main event of UFC 191 on Sept. 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nev.

While the rematch was announced several weeks ago, the date, location and news that it would headline a pay-per-view event, was announced on Fox Sports 1 on Wednesday night moments before Dodson’s Jackson-Wink MMA teammate Holly Holm’s fight on the UFC Fight Night card in San Diego.

Since their first fight, Johnson has had four more title defenses while Dodson is 3-0 with a long hiatus after tearing his ACL in 2014.
