Police supporters, protesters face off in Denver

DENVER — A pro-police rally transitioned from a peaceful gathering into a face-off between police supporters and anti-police protesters in Denver.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/1gJkXMp ) that Denver businessman Ron MacLachlan held the pro-police march at Civic Center on Sunday. Active law enforcement officers, area residents and other police supporter groups turned out for the event.

The march garnered opposition as people carrying large signs displaying the names of loved ones killed by police and shouting through megaphones showed up.

MacLachlan says he didn’t expect all the opposition but that it reinforced why the event needed to be held.

Daniel Gallegos, the brother-in-law of Paul Castaway, who was shot and killed by Denver police last week, was at the event. His family has disputed the police’s version of events about Castaway’s death.
