‘Topes Today (July 26)

  Sunday: vs. Sacramento, 6:05 p.m.

Probable starters: Isotopes LHP John Lannon (6-4, 4.70) vs. River Cats LHP Ty Blach (8-8, 4.24)

  Radio: 610 AM

  Promotion: Adult replica jersey

Saturday: Tim Smalling hit a two-run home run, part of a four-run third inning that broke a 4-4 tie, and the Albuquerque Dukes went on to beat the Sacramento River Cats 9-6 at the Albuquerque Sports Stadium before a Retro Night crowd of 12,856 at Isotopes Park.

Trevor Story had three doubles and a pair of RBIs for Albuquerque in the unusual victory. The first three innings took nearly 90 minutes to play, but the final six required only about 75 minutes. Angelys Nina also had three hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Boone Whiting (3-4) earned the victory for the Dukes, giving up five earned runs in five innings.

The defense behind losing pitcher Nik Turley was sketchy; the River Cats committed three errors, leading to three unearned runs.

This and that: Charlie Manuel, a former Dukes outfielder and Major League player and manager, was inducted into the Albuquerque Pro Baseball Hall of Fame prior to the game.

… The parent Colorado Rockies signed free agent left-handed pitcher Rudy Owens and assigned him to the ‘Topes. In a corresponding move, RHP Ryan Arrowood has been sent to Double-A New Britain.
