Albuquerque police are investigating a fatal shooting in southwest Albuquerque and are struggling to find witnesses willing or able to fill them in on what exactly happened.

Police provided few details about the killing, except that a man was shot in the 4300 block of Blake SW in front of a trailer park and died at the hospital. A blue jacket could be seen surrounded by crime scene tape as police investigated.

One man, who declined to identify himself and said he wouldn’t talk to police because he “didn’t want to be involved,” said the shooting was a drive-by that involved a white sedan heading west on Blake.

He said he heard at least seven gunshots, a “back and forth” between three men on the road, including the victim, and the occupants of the sedan. He said one of the victim’s companions was being questioned by police.

Officers were dispatched to the scene around 5:30 p.m.

APD spokesman Daren Deaguero said police were having difficulty finding witnesses, though police had found one person to question. Deaguero could not provide any more information about the victim.

“In this neighborhood, that’s kind of what we’re working with,” he said in an interview outside the police tape. “Nobody wants to talk to police.”
