Santa Fe P.D. Adds Patrols in Railyard Area

SANTA FE (AP) — Santa Fe police are responding to resident complaints by approving overtime for increased car and bike patrols in the Railyard area. Residents say there’s been an increase in various crimes, public drunkenness and public displays of inappropriate behavior.

Santa Fe Police Capt. Aric Wheeler says that while early indicators suggest a heavier police presence is decreasing crime, he acknowledged it doesn’t really resolve long-term issues in the neighborhood.

Wheeler says it may have just moved problems to another neighborhood.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports police released crime statistics Monday evening revealing there were 147 crimes including liquor violations, larceny, burglary and robbery in 2010. So far, in 2011, there have been 93 crimes.
