A woman was killed last night after an alleged drunk driver careened into her vehicle head on while heading the wrong direction on a state highway, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. along N.M. Highway 313 north of Roy Road, according to BCSO Sgt. Aaron Williamson. He said the driver of a Ford F-150 pickup truck, Antonio Jeffrey, 33, was driving northbound in the southbound lanes and struck a Hyundai Sonata head on.

The vehicle’s front passenger, a woman who was not identified, was killed. Jeffrey sustained multiple non-life-threatening injuries, Williamson said.

Jeffrey “showed signs of intoxication” and a DWI investigation was completed. He was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on a count of vehicular homicide. He’s being held there on a $50,000 cash or surety bond, according to jail records.
