ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — When a man locked his wife out of their Northeast Albuquerque apartment Sunday, his brother-in-law shot him three times, including once in the head, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.
The victim, Michael Jackson, and his wife, Tamika Jackson were arguing on their way home from a local bar with their three young children. Once they returned to the apartment, Michael Jackson locked Tamika Jackson out of their apartment. She then called her brother, Dwight Lester, for help, she told police.
Lester arrived to the apartment and entered through the side patio door. He and Michael Jackson then argued inside, with the Jacksons’ children present. Lester shot Michael Jackson three times, once on the left side of his head, police said.
Tamika Jackson called police to the apartment on the 13000 block of Fruit Ave NE, saying her husband had been shot. When they arrived, Michael Jackson was bleeding, lying on the stairway leading up to the apartment.
He was immediately rushed to the University of New Mexico hospital, where he underwent surgery. His current condition is unknown.
Lester has been charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, three counts of child abuse, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied dwelling, assault to commit a violent felony, tampering with evidence and attempt to commit homicide. His bail was set for $100,000.
