New Mexico wines used to flow in the heart of Bernalillo every Labor Day weekend for the past 27 years, but this year craft beers will take center stage.
The New Mexico Brewer’s Guild has teamed up with the town of Bernalillo for its first Mountain West Brew Fest. The festival, which will be held Sept. 5-6, will feature craft beers from New Mexico as well as California, Colorado and Utah.
“We thought that we would promote that New Mexico is a major producer of craft beer,” New Mexico Brewers Guild director Chris Goblet said. “We’re part of the West Coast philosophy of making beer and we wanted to showcase local and regional breweries but also breweries along the Pacific Coast.”
The festival will feature 30 New Mexico breweries and many from out of state. Participating New Mexico breweries include Blue Corn Brewery, Boese Brothers Brewing, Bosque Brewing Co., Boxing Bear Brewing Co., Canteen Brewhouse, Chama River Brewing Co., Duel Brewing Co., Kaktus Brewing Co., La Cumbre Brewing Co., Lizard Tail Brewing, Marble Brewery, Nexus Brewery, Ponderosa Brewing Co., Red Door Brewing Co., Rio Bravo Brewing Co., Santa Fe Brewing Co., Second Street Brewery, Sierra Blanca Brewery, Tractor Brewing Co. and more.
The out-of-state offerings will change each day of the festival. Offerings include those from Ballast Point, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., Green Flash Brewing Co. and Lagunitas Brewing Co. out of California; Avery Brewing Co., Breckenridge Brewery, Ska Brewing and Upslope Brewing Co. from Colorado as well as Wasatch and Squatters out of Utah.
Ciders and gluten-free options from New Mexico and out-of-state also will be available.
Beat the heat and buy an adult premium ticket, which gets you into a 40 foot by 100 foot air-conditioned tent that will feature specialty beers and ciders.
In addition to the plentiful beer offerings, there will be live music, food vendors, a mini-farmers market and fun activities.
