The UFC on Thursday night announced Condit, the Albuquerque native, will fight Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the MGM Grand for the UFC welterweight championship.
Their fight was originally scheduled for UFC 193 on Nov. 14 in Australia, but a Lawler thumb injury forced the bout to be postponed.
When that happened, the UFC moved the women’s bantamweight championship fight between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm, also an Albuquerque native and Condit’s teammate at Jackson-Wink MMA, into the Australia main event. And now, Condit/Lawler will take over the UFC 195 main event that was originally slated for Holm/Rousey.
Jackson-Wink title fights
Between Sept. 5 and Jan. 2, four Jackson-Wink MMA trained fighters, all of whom call New Mexico home and three of which were born and raised in Albuquerque, will be main event headliners on UFC fight cards around the world, fighting for championship belts.
