Your mouth might water at the thought of kettle corn and funnel cakes when thinking of the New Mexico State Fair, but now adult fair-goers will have another reason to salivate.

The New Mexico State Fair is now offering tastings and selling pints of New Mexico craft beers as well as some New Mexico wines by the glass during this new event. The Department of Agriculture, in collaboration with the New Mexico Brewers Guild and the New Mexico Wine Growers Association, is presenting the event.

“The Department of Agriculture approached us to jazz up their building this year with beer and wine tastings along with other locally produced goods,” New Mexico Brewers Guild Director Chris Goblet said. “In the past, they’ve had nuts, chile and other things produced in New Mexico. This year they are allowing New Mexico beer and wine.”

Guests will be able to sample craft beers from two different New Mexico breweries each day of the event. Beers will be paired with New Mexico nuts, including pecans, according to Goblet. Beer by the pint also will be available for purchase.

The schedule is:

• Tractor Brewing Company and Turtle Mountain Brewing Co. today.

• Boxing Bear Brewing Co. and Sierra Blanca & Rio Grande Brewing Co. on Saturday.

• Santa Fe Brewing Co. and La Cumbre Brewing Company on Sept. 17.

• Abbey Brewing Co. and Bosque Brewing Co. on Sept. 18 and Abbey Brewing Co. and Rio Bravo Brewing Company on Sept. 19.

Wine offerings from St. Clair Winery, Casa Abril Winery and others also will be available for tasting. Wine by the glass can be purchased.

In addition to the tastings, visitors can peruse large wine and beer displays. These include interactive displays on wine making and beer making.

New Mexico State Fair Cream Ale will be available every day of the fair for purchase at beer gardens located throughout the fairgrounds. La Cumbre was selected to created the first ever official beer of the New Mexico State Fair. Official New Mexico State Fair products must include New Mexico ingredients.

New Mexico-grown hops were used to create the State Fair Cream Ale. For more information on the ale, visit abqjournal.com/606889.
