LOS ANGELES – Junior forward Chris Wehan scored his sixth goal of the season and the New Mexico men’s soccer team toppled No. 20 Loyola Marymount 2-1 on Sunday.
Nick Rochowski got UNM on the board in the 75th minute. It was UNM’s first goal of the season scored by someone other than Wehan.
Two minutes later, Wehan recorded the game-winner off a free kick to give UNM (3-1-1) its third straight win.
“We played really well again,” UNM head coach Jeremy Fishbein said. “They got a goal off a tackle that maybe one out of 10 times bounces the way it did, and they took it really well to get their goal. But we defended really well all game. There’s a great spirit to the group, and it’s exciting to be a part of it.”
EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State turned back the New Mexico women’s soccer team 1-0 in overtime Sunday.
The Spartans (4-1-2) got a goal from Allyson Krause in the 97th minute to turn back the Lobos (2-5-0), who had the edge in shots (16-11) and shots on goal (5-3).
“I think that was the best we have played all season. We put two good halves together and carried it over into overtime,” UNM coach Heather Dyche said. “Our possession was good as was our transition and defense. We didn’t give up much to them the whole match. I don’t like losing, but I was really pleased with our performance today.”
