Crews respond to 2-acre fire in the Sandias

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Firefighters are dealing with an approximately 2-acre fire in the Sandias, north of the Crest Highway, tonight, according to the East Mountain Interagency Fire Protection Association.

Crews from the Sandia Ranger District and the Bernalillo and Sandoval county fire departments are at the scene of the Balsam Glade Fire, the association said in a news release issued around 8 p.m.

“Containment line has been established around the majority of the fire at this time,” the release reads. “The cause of the fire is currently unknown but under investigation.”

The fire is in the area of the Balsam Glade Interpretive Trail. It is not currently threatening any structures nor posing any significant threat to private property.

Firefighters are expected to work the fire through the evening and throughout Friday, as necessary.
