Botanical garden expansion to begin construction

SANTA FE, N.M. — The Santa Fe Botanical Garden on Museum Hill is holding a ground-breaking at 11 a.m. Friday for Phase Two, which will have land contouring and similar construction work over the winter, with planting in the spring and an anticipated opening in August or September.

Titled Ojos y Manos: Eyes and Hands, the new area will focus on the shared history of humans and plants in northern New Mexico, and will be the center for educational programs in the garden. Three outdoor classrooms, two exploration places and a learning pavilion will be included in this new section of the garden, which will include annual crops that visitors can help plant and harvest.
