Lobo Field, home of the UNM baseball team, will be called Santa Ana Star Field after the school’s regents approved the deal on Friday
Tamaya Enterprises will make a $1 million gift, to be paid over 10 years, for the naming rights, UNM athletic director Paul Krebs said in a letter to the UNM naming committee.
“We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with Tamaya Enterprises who have been long-standing supporters of the Lobos. The field naming rights is a great example of their commitment to the community and provides us an opportunity for Lobo Athletics to give back to the Pueblo of Santa Ana,” said Krebs in a statement released by the school. “The beneficiary of this field naming rights is not just our baseball program but our entire community and state.”
The UNM finance and facilities board approved the deal on Thursday.
The donation will be used to pay for overall improvements to the Lobo baseball stadium including a new clubhouse.
The partnership will make Tamaya Enterprises the most prominent sponsor at the stadium, including exterior signage in the outfield facing University Avenue, UNM said in a statement. A specific Santa Ana Star Field logo will be designed and mutually agreed upon between Tamaya Enterprises and UNM Athletics.
