San Juan County man accused of groping girl

FARMINGTON — Two men were charged last week with groping children in unrelated criminal cases.

Timothy Schulte, 49, of San Juan County, was charged Wednesday in Aztec Magistrate Court with two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor younger than age 13.

San Juan County Sheriff’s Office detective Sgt. Candice Montoya said Monday Schulte is currently in Nebraska, but the U.S. Marshals Service has been notified he is wanted for arrest.

He has not yet retained legal representation, according to court records.

A 13-year-old girl first reported to sheriff’s detectives on Dec. 4 that Schulte had groped her breasts in 2012 at a residence on County Road 2620, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

The girl told investigators she had a bad dream on the night of the incident and crawled into bed with her mother at the residence. The girl said Schulte began touching her breasts both over and under her clothing after her mother left for work, the affidavit states.

The girl told detectives Schulte regularly talked about his genitals with her and had slapped her butt on several occasions, according to the affidavit.

Schulte’s cash-only bond was set at $50,000, according to court records.

William Hillburn, 29, of Farmington, was charged Dec. 7 in Aztec Magistrate Court with one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor younger than age 13 and one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor age 13 to 18.

Hillburn is being held at the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on a $50,000 cash-only bond, according to court records.

He has not yet retained legal representation, records state.

Hillburn’s wife told detectives on Dec. 3 that a 13-year-old relative disclosed that Hillburn had touched her inappropriately at a residence on County Road 5590, according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

The girl told investigators Hillburn entered her room on the night of Dec. 2 and groped her genital area through her underwear. She said Hillburn persisted, despite her kicking him several times, the affidavit states.

The girl immediately told Hillburn’s wife what happened and she confronted him, according to the affidavit. Hillburn claimed he was in the room because he thought he smelled something burning, the affidavit states.

She told detectives she kicked Hillburn out of the house. He later allegedly told her he was sorry and claimed he touched the girl accidentally, according to the affidavit.

The girl told investigators Hillburn had also groped her genital area in August, but she did not report the incident then.
