AMARILLO, Texas — Amarillo police have fatally shot an armed man when he appeared to move his gun in the direction of officers.
Lt. Erick Bohannon says the shooting happened Sunday as police were dispatched about a suicidal person with a gun.
Bohannon says officers arrived at the house and located the man, 31-year-old Mark Ramirez, who was holding a gun as he opened the door.
Bohannon says Ramirez began moving the gun in the direction of officers and then police shot him.
Ramirez was transported to an Amarillo hospital, where he died. Officials ordered an autopsy, scheduled for Tuesday in Lubbock.
The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leaving pending a review of the incident.
