CARSON, Calif. — Former New Mexico running back Jhurell Pressley, who was selected for the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, has been assigned to Team American, and he will be coached by former Super Bowl winning head coach Mike Holmgren. The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will take place on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 3 p.m. in Carson, Calif. at the StubHub Center.
Pressley, who completed his Lobo career in 2015, is a two-time team and offensive MVP for New Mexico. His 2,725 rushing yards is the seventh-most in school history, and his 35 rushing touchdowns are the second-highest total in school history. He is one of four running backs on Team American along with Darrius Jackson of Eastern Michigan, Sione Houma of Michigan and Jacobi Green of Richmond.
Holmgren is a veteran head coach of the Green Bay Packers and the Seattle Seahawks, winning 161 games in 17 years, advancing to the playoffs 12 times, advancing to three Super Bowls, including a 35-21 win by the Packers over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. Mike Martz, the orchestrator of the St. Louis Rams’ “Greatest Show of Turf” is the head coach for Team National.
Pressley is one of 12 former Mountain West players in the game. The teams will begin practices on Monday, January 18 in Carson. Practices on Wednesday and Thursday for Pressley will be from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Pacific time and shown live on ESPNU. The NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. MT.
