‘Bones’ Jones to make comeback on April 23 at UFC 197

Jon “Bones” Jones will make his comeback and attempt to regain his light heavyweight crown on April 23 at UFC 197 against Daniel Cormier at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nev.

The UFC announced the pairing Saturday on its website.

Jones, who fights out of Albuquerque’s Jackson-Wink MMA, was stripped of his title following his arrest after an April 26, 2015 hit-and-run case. UFC suspended him and stripped him of his light heavyweight title shortly thereafter. Last September, Jones pled guilty to leaving the scene of the accident. He received probation and has been in the area making 72 appearances talking to kids about the error of his ways.

Cormier, who lost a decision to Jones in January 2015, later won the vacant title.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT: At the MGM Grand, Albuquerque MMA fighter Ray Borg lost by unanimous decision to Justin Scoggins on Saturday night on a “UFC Fight Night” card. All three judges scored the fight 30-27 for Scoggins. Borg, who trains at FIT-NHB, is now 9-2. Scoggins, from Spartanburg, S.C., is 11-2.

Joseph Benavidez (24-4), a Las Cruces High graduate who lives and trains in Sacramento, Calif., defeated Zach Makovsky (19-7)by unanimous decision.
