ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The $1.5M grant will allow the Medicaid Working Disabled Individual program to continue through 2011
The New Mexico Human Services Department has received a $1.5 million federal grant that will allow it to continue a particular Medicaid program through 2011.
Human Services Secretary Sidonie Squier said the Medicaid Working Disabled Individual program has been instrumental in helping disabled New Mexicans stay in the work force without jeopardizing their health coverage.
The program lets people with disabilities continue working while receiving Social Security benefits and health care through Medicaid.
It also provides Medicaid health care to people who have been approved for Social Security Disability Insurance but are waiting the mandatory two-year period for Medicare health care coverage to begin.
This will be the 11th and final year of the grant.
State officials said enrollment has increased from 496 in 2001 to 1,703 in 2010.
