These days, Greta Simone Kline’s life has been on the go.
From a stint at South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, to planning for a headlining tour, it’s safe to say Kline has been busy.
“Oh, I’m also prepping music for a future album,” she says with a laugh during a recent phone interview. “There’s been lots of preparation for this tour.”
Kline is a singer-songwriter who performs under the moniker Frankie Cosmos.
To say Kline is prolific at songwriting is an understatement.
Since releasing “sickerwinter” in 2012, Kline has released 18 bodies of work under Frankie Cosmos.
Her latest, “Next Thing,” was released April 1.
Kline says it took nearly a year to finish “Next Thing,” though many of the songs were written during the recording process.
“I’m pretty much always writing stuff, and I’ve become more discerning of which songs I take to the band,” she says. “A lot of my writing is based off what I’m listening to. In the past, I would bring the band completed songs. Now I don’t feel like it’s complete until I bring it to the band. That’s new and exciting to get their feedback on what the song should be.”
Over time, Kline has become more comfortable with her band and trusts each opinion.
“The scary part is that we can work on a song for two years,” she says. “The entire process is so long.”
When Kline was planning her tour, it originally didn’t include a show in Santa Fe.
“My uncle lives there, and I asked our booking agent to check to see if we could have a show there,” she says. “I had it in my head that it would be fun. We landed up at Meow Wolf, and I think it worked out well.”
Kline and crew will continue to tour on and off for the rest of the year.
“This tour has us going to a lot of new places,” she says. “It’ll be great to test out some new markets and see how the music is received.”
