Indoor football: Dodge City defeats Gladiators in CIF showdown

The Duke City Gladiators’ four-game winning streak came to a halt Saturday night when they lost to the host Dodge City (Kan.) Law 48-39 in a Champions Indoor Football game.

Duke City held a 20-14 lead with 2 minutes left in the first half before Dodge City mounted a comeback and then held off a late threat by the Gladiators.

With a minute to play in the fourth quarter and the Gladiators down by nine, they had the ball at the Law 1. But an off-line shotgun snap to QB Bryan Randall resulted in a loss of 16 yards and the Gladiators eventually turned the ball over on downs.

Randall, the former ACC Offensive Player of the Year for Virginia Tech, threw for six scores, including three to Dello Davis and two to Sedrick Johnson. Brock Ringo caught the other.

Defensively for Duke City, defensive back Jayson Serda, a Manzano High alum, had nine solo tackles and two assists. Kevin Reaves had seven solos and four assists.

Dodge City was led by the rushing of Dominique Carson, who scored twice from the 1 and also from 7 and 18 yards.

The Gladiators drop to 4-2 in the CIF’s six-team Southern Division and were leapfrogged by the Law (5-2). The Texas Revolution leads the pack at 5-1.

Texas will travel to face the Gladiators at Tingley Coliseum next Saturday at 6 p.m.
