ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Public meeting will be held at the park in Deming on March 29; deadline for public comment is April 18
Rockhound State Park will hold a public meeting on March 29 at the park in Deming for people to review and comment on the draft management plan for the park, according to a news release.
The news release issued Wednesday said the meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the park’s visitor center.
The plan reviews existing park resources and identifies potential improvements for the next five years, the news release said. The park is comprised of two units — Rockhound, which includes the visitor center, campground, picnic sites and trails, and Spring Canyon, which has picnic sites three miles from the visitor center.
The news release said the recommendations in the plan include renovating an existing maintenance shop into a multi-purpose educational building and replacing the shop, which is currently used as a meeting space. Other proposed improvements include building an ADA-accessible campsite, installing a water spigot at the Rockhound day use area, constructing new trails at Spring Canyon and improving the Rockhound trails, according to the news release.
The deadline for comments, written or oral, is April 18.
Copies of the plan are available for review at the park’s visitor center, at the State Parks Division regional office at 5575 North Valley Drive, Dona Ana, or at www.nmparks.com. Comment letters can be dropped off at the park; mailed to P.O. Box 1147, Santa Fe, NM 87505; e-mailed to email@example.com; or faxed to 505-476-3361.
