At Elephant Butte Lake,
Ed Robison of Albuquerque caught and released an 8-pound plus, largemouth bass on May 13. He was using a June Bug Craw. … Charlotte Bazan of Albuquerque caught a 15-inch crappie. She was fishing in McCrae Canyon and using a crank bait.
Andres Montoya, 13 of Albuquerque caught a northern pike and a largemouth bass at Cochiti Lake on May 14. He was using a crank bait and a jig.
David Carbajal, Sr. of Bayard caught a 9-pound largemouth bass at Bill Evans Lake on May 10. He was using a power worm.
Angelico Chavez of Las Vegas caught a 41-inch, 25-pound northern pike at Eagle Nest Lake on May 12. He was using a #5 gold Mepps spinner.
Kris Bosley of Amarillo caught and released a 6.74-pound largemouth bass while fishing a bass tournament at Navajo Lake on May 15. In the same tournament, John Newlund of Arkansas caught and released a 5.45-pound smallmouth bass May 14.
Tiffany Romo of Santa Fe caught a 25-inch rainbow trout on the Pecos River on May 14 using salmon eggs.
AROUND THE STATE
SAN JUAN RIVER: The spring release began Wednesday and will reach 5,000 cfs on Sunday at approximately 11 a.m. The release will stay at 5,000 cfs for up to 31 days, or until the spring runoff is complete. If all 31 days at peak are utilized, the release will begin receding on June 23, reaching 500 cfs on July 4, where it will remain until further notice.
NOTES from GAME & FISH: Fishing at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was good using minnows, sassy shad, curly tail grubs, jerk baits and crank baits for white bass. Good reports came in from anglers fishing the Long Point and McCrae Canyon areas. Fishing was good using swim baits, tubes, jigs, senkos, sweet beavers, crank baits and jerk baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using shad, shrimp, blood baits, liver and night crawlers for catfish.
At FENTON LAKE, fishing was very good using olive woolly buggers, mayfly nymphs, Pistol Petes, small crank baits, PowerBait, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 186 cfs. Fishing was good using copper John Barrs, San Juan worms, salmon eggs and worms for trout. Fishing on the EAST FORK was good using small dark nymphs for brown trout. Fishing on the CEBOLLA below Fenton Lake was very good using worms, copper John Barrs, prince nymphs and San Juan worms for brown and rainbow trout.
Fishing at NAVAJO LAKE was very good using jerk baits, swim baits, crank baits, top water lures, worms, tubes, grubs and senkos for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was good using spinner baits, crank baits and jerk baits for northern pike.
At LAKE MALOYA, fishing was very good using brown bead-head woolly buggers, Pistol Petes and gold spoons for rainbow trout up to 24 inches.
At LAKE ALICE, fishing was good using PowerBait for rainbow trout.
Fishing at MONASTERY LAKE was good using PowerBait, Pistol Petes, worms and salmon eggs for trout.
At MORPHY LAKE, fishing was very good using Zeke’s trout bait, salmon eggs, worms, olive and brown woolly buggers, Pistol Petes, Fisher Chick spinners and Panther Martin spinners for trout.
Fishing at CLAYTON LAKE was good using pink PowerBait, spinners and red and white spoons for limits of rainbow trout.
At UTE LAKE, fishing was good using tubes, craws, worms, grubs and swim baits for smallmouth bass and an occasional largemouth bass. Fishing was good using spinner worm rigs, bottom bouncer rigs and crank baits for walleye.
Streamflow on the CIMARRON RIVER near Cimarron on Monday was 40 cfs. Trout fishing was good using worms, salmon eggs, copper John Barrs and red San Juan worms.
Fishing at SANTA ROSA LAKE was very good using crank baits, jerk baits, creature baits, salt craws, spinner baits, sweet beavers and tubes for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass.
At CONCHAS LAKE, fishing was good using crank baits, tubes, creature baits, jerk baits, spinner baits and minnows for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass.
Trout fishing at SANTA CRUZ RESERVOIR was good using Pistol Petes, Fisher Chick spinners, small crank baits, worms and PowerBait.
Fishing the BERNALILLO DRAIN was fair to good using salmon eggs and worms for trout.
Fishing at BLUEWATER LAKE was fair using spinners, PowerBait, worms under a bobber and salmon eggs for trout.
