APD: Fatal bicycle crash shuts down Central and Broadway

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A bicyclist was killed after he collided with a car at Central and Broadway Tuesday evening, according to an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman.

Officer Mike Schroeder said the car was traveling north around on Broadway and the bicyclist was going west on Central when the two collided. The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m.

He said investigators are still working to determine who had the right of way.

Schroeder said the bicyclist died on the scene, and the driver was taken into custody while police determined if she was intoxicated.

“We’re conducting a DWI investigation,” Schroeder said. “It’s unclear as to whether alcohol a factor.”

Police did not release the name of the person who died.
