AROUND THE STATE

NAMBÉ WATERFALLS & LAKE: The lake and waterfalls area will be closed until June 19 due to a movie project taking place on property. We will be open for regular business hours starting June 23 at 7 a.m. Wayne Vigil, asst. head tribal ranger

HERON LAKE: Fishing has picked up a little. Bill Dolski, my neighbor here in Piñon Ridge, and I went out fishing for three hours and we caught six fish (four kokanee salmon and two rainbow trout). We also missed four or five strikes that didn’t hook up. We caught 12- to 14-inch fish trolling eight to 12 feet deep. We were using the yellow and red dot Panther Martins and a bright nickel double-whammy spinner. There was not much fishing pressure, as we were the only boat on the water. Water is still not being released from the dam. The water level is approaching the top of the new boat ramp at Ridge Rock. Don Wolfley, Stone House Lodge

SHADY LAKES: The trout continue to be caught easy to moderate, mostly with lures, worms and salmon eggs. Average size runs 11 inches. With the new well, we will resume stocking big trout, hopefully the week of June 14 in preparation for Father’s Day fishing. Bass action reports have been moderate. With the lilies up now and in full flower, success is primarily on plastic frogs, worms, and crawdads rigged weedless. The highest report was six bass caught in a day. Bluegill remain active on flies and worms. Jan Phillips, Director
