An Albuquerque man whose young son fell into an uncovered manhole says the construction project is dangerous and more should be done to protect the public.
Bob Anderson told KRQE-TV that his 5-year-old son fell more than 11 feet down in the gaping hole and splashed into a pool of raw sewage last week.
Anderson jumped in, grabbed the boy and was able to rescue him with his wife pulling the two out of the hole at the construction zone on Coal Ave.
He says a thin steel plate that was supposed to cover the pit had been moved.
Since the accident, city crews have been sweeping the construction site nightly — checking to make sure all the holes are covered and the area is as safe as possible.
