Farmington Couple To Wed After Newspaper Plays Cupid

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Dawn, who ‘froze’ when Ed first popped the question, fixes things with an ad in The Daily Times last week.

Dawn Atwood formally asked Ed Burton for his hand in marriage by taking out an ad in The Daily Times last week — an ad that took up nearly a third of page C6 on March 31 — and it took a shocked Ed Burton nearly 24 hours to say yes.

“I had radio stations and all sorts of people calling the next day,” Burton told The Daily Times. “I finally had to tell people, yes, I’m off the market.”

Ed said he actually was the first to propose, but he told The Daily Times that Dawn’s own shocked response kind of killed the moment.

“He bought a ring and got down on one knee,” Dawn confessed to the paper. “I froze up and said, ‘Are you serious?’ I knew then that I needed to fix it, so this is what I did.”

Ed dragged his feet a bit but finally did say yes 24 hours after his picture appeared in the newspaper ad, but not before he threatened to put Dawn’s picture in the paper, too.

As to when the wedding will take place, the couple isn’t saying, The Daily Times reported.

“It’s got to be soon,” Dawn joked. “He’s not going to be around much longer.”
