VERONA, N.Y. – Los Altos Golf Course assistant pro David Muttitt won a seven-man playoff on Wednesday after the final round of the PGA Professional Championship to grab a berth in this year’s PGA Championship.
Muttitt and six others tied for 21st in the 312-player field at 1-under 277 with the top 20 gaining spots in the event at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey late in July.
However, Atlanta’s Karen Paolozzi, who finished tied for seventh, was not eligible for the PGA Championship because she played from the front tees rather than the championship tees. Muttitt won the battle for the 20th spot on the fourth extra hole.
Texas’ Brad Lardon, who will start as director of golf at Santa Fe’s Las Campanas on Friday, finished tied for 13th at 2 under and also qualifies.
