ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — 16-year-old David Kidd, who died in an accident on San Mateo near Comanche yesterday, was the youngest of the group in the car.

The driver and other passengers were 19 and 18, according to a police report. The teenagers lived in Bosque Farms and Los Lunas.

Kidd was in the backseat of the Toyota sedan traveling southbound on San Mateo in the right lane when a Nissan SUV began to turn left onto Ponderosa, and the vehicles collided. The driver of the SUV,  24-year-old Estevan Martinez, said he never saw the other car.

Samantha Bland, 19, Jose Rodriguez, 18, and Leandra Baraka, 19, were all taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A 16-year-old boy was killed in a collision near Ponderosa and San Mateo NE on Wednesday afternoon.

Albuquerque police identified the victim as David Kidd.

Police said an SUV and a green sedan carrying four teenagers collided at the intersection, causing the sedan to spin into a pole around 1 p.m. The impact caused serious head injuries to Kidd, who was sitting in the rear passenger side of the vehicle, according to police.

Police spokeswoman Tasia Martinez said paramedics who responded found Kidd not breathing with only a faint pulse. Investigators said he died while en route to a local hospital.

The other three teenagers in the sedan were also taken to a local hospital, with injuries that were not life threatening, Martinez said.

Police have not released the names of the others involved in the accident.

Investigators said the SUV, traveling north on San Mateo, tried to turn left at Ponderosa when it collided with the green sedan headed south on San Mateo.

Martinez said police are not sure who is at fault. Police interviewed the driver of the SUV, but no charges had been filed Wednesday.
