Swing it “Easy” Baby
One of the key fundamentals of the golf swing is tempo, or the rhythm in which you swing the club. Timing in swinging your body and club is crucial in maximizing the use of the club without swinging too aggressively. You should have the sensation of an effortless swing conducted by the body that propels the golf ball into the air, rather than an aggressive attempt using your hands or arms and over-controlling the golf club.
How can you get there? Take for example, Ernie Els or “The Big Easy.” He’s someone who appears to make an effortless, free flowing swing but yet strikes the golf ball solidly while maintaining his posture and balance. In terms of your tempo, I challenge you to do a drill in which the swing takes you three seconds on your takeaway with a one-second follow through. By doing the four seconds through impact drill, you too can start hitting shots that feel easy and effortless.
