The film and TV industry in New Mexico continues to bring in big money into the state.
According to the New Mexico Film Office, the direct spend into the state economy of projects during fiscal year 2016 reached $387 million.
This is up from fiscal year 2015’s record high of $288 million.
“It takes a lot of work, and the film office hit the ground running,” said Nick Maniatis, Film Office director.
At a news conference at I-25 Studios, Gov. Susana Martinez said the film industry has grown into a strong piece of the economy.
“We knew we had to diversify,” Martinez said. “The industry now provides jobs for plenty of businesses around New Mexico. We’ve worked to strengthen and stabilize the film incentive program.”
Maniatis also touted the 260,000 worker days for the fiscal year.
“This means that New Mexicans are working,” he said. “The two numbers that matter to me are the direct spend and the worker days.”
