ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Marble Brewery is in some good company this week.

The Albuquerque-based craft brewery sent a team to San Diego to work on a collaboration beer at Stone Brewing, a Southern California powerhouse ranked as the 10th largest U.S. craft brewery by the Brewers Association. Ted Rice, Marble’s president and brew master, said the collaboration also features Colorado’s Odell Brewing Co. (No. 32 on the Brewers Association list.)

“We’ve done collaboration brews, but not at this level,” Rice said. “Working with the brewery that’s the size of Stone is a next-level engagement for us.”

Rice said the plan is for a still-unnamed “pale, hazy, 8-percent, hop-forward, delicious American ale.” It will be a 130-barrel batch, and brewing is taking place this week.

It will be available on draft only, but Rice said if the response is positive enough, the beer could earn a spot on Stone’s 2017 production and bottling schedule.

While its New Mexico small-brewers license prohibits Marble from selling any out-of-state beer, Rice said the plan is to get the collaboration brew to Albuquerque consumers by distributing it to other Albuquerque bars. He said it should be available by late summer.
