Aggie athletics promotes Cartwright

LAS CRUCES  – New Mexico State athletic director Mario Moccia announced the promotion of Braun Cartwright to deputy AD – chief operating officer.

“Braun has been invaluable for me during my tenure at New Mexico State,” Moccia said. “His wide ranging abilities as an administrator has resulted in one of my easier decisions.”

Cartwright began in 2005 with NMSU and enters his 12th year with the Aggies. During his time in Las Cruces, Cartwright oversaw the compliance office, tacked on administrative duties in 2006 and added more duties as the years went on.

“I really appreciate the opportunity that I have had at New Mexico State,” Cartwright said. “I want to assist Mario in any way I can to continue to move Aggie Athletics forward. I also want to thank Liz Ellis, NM State General Counsel, for the opportunity to assist Mario this past year while continuing my work in the compliance office.”

In his new role, Cartwright will assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations and be a key member in the athletic director’s executive leadership team. In addition, he will also act as the sport administrator for soccer, softball, men’s and women’s golf and baseball.

Having worked in compliance for 12 years, where he started his collegiate athletic career, Cartwright became known for his utilization of the new, “blueshirt,” rule in FBS football. His discovery was popularized by the Aggies and is now widely used by Power 5 programs around the country.
