ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Leadership New Mexico is now accepting applications for its 2012-2013 Core Program, a 10-month endeavor designed to identify, teach and challenge established leaders of the state with a curriculum that addresses critical issues affecting New Mexico.
The group, which typically creates a class of 40-45 people from throughout the state with diverse backgrounds and business sectors for the core program, is also seeking applicants for its shorter Connect New Mexico Program.
Applicants to either must demonstrate a dedication to New Mexico’s progress, Leadership President Patty Komko said in a news release.
Organizers are looking for motivation and interest in serving the state, demonstrated voluntary leadership, an occupational commitment to remain in the state, and a desire to play a personal role in helping shape New Mexico’s future.
“We encourage applicants from all communities of New Mexico to apply for the program; our strength is diversity” Komko said. “We bring together leaders from across the state, that might not otherwise have met, and provide them the opportunity to learn about each other’s diverse industry sectors and communities. By sharing a common bond, we have created a network of professionals that can rely upon each other to make a difference in their communities and in the state.”
The core program has six sessions scheduled throughout the year in different communities and an a variety of topics including economic development, education, environment and natural resources, health and human services, government, and crime and justice.
Core program tuition is $3,500.
The Connect New Mexico Program gives young professionals the opportunity to develop personal leadership skills, learn how state systems and structures work and to explore critical issues facing the state.
There are three sessions of Connect New Mexico each year. Each program involves 40-45 young professionals, ages 25-40, from throughout the state. Applicants must be nominated by a Leadership New Mexico graduate.
Tuition for this program is $1,500.
Applications are available on the Leadership New Mexico website, www.leadershipnm.org or by calling 505-241-4800. Deadline for submission is March 15, 2012.
Since its founding in 1995, nearly 1,000 participants from 74 communities have participated in the Leadership New Mexico Core Program.
