New Mexico Highlands announces Nike deal

LAS VEGAS, N.M.- President Dr. Sam Minner and Director of Athletics Bob Clifford are excited to announce that New Mexico Highlands has signed to become the first Rocky Mountain Athletic program to be a part of the Nike family.

“Our engagement with Nike is but another strong signal of NMHU’s commitment to improving our athletic program” mentioned Dr. Minner. “We have such a great tradition here already, but Director of Athletics (Bob) Clifford and I are adamant that the best of NMHU athletics is still to come. I thank Bob for his unyielding commitment to making NMHU an ‘all Nike’ school.”

As part of the sponsorship, all NMHU teams will wear Nike apparel as well use Nike equipment. Head football coach Jeff Mills said, “This deal is a game changer. The ability to tell recruits that we are the only RMAC member in the Nike family is a big deal. When you see the swoosh you automatically think of successful teams and winning traditions.”

Craig Snow understands what this deal means not only for his program but also the athletic department and university as a whole. “I think it’s a huge shot in the arm for out athletic department. The ability we have to improved what we are able to give our students athletes and to have the Nike brand as part of our university is huge. It helps in recruiting and it give us a better foot print in college basketball. I couldn’t be happier and it is a step in the right direction. I want to thank all the people involved in this deal and made it happen.”

“We want to thank Brian Sackinsky and the Nike family for inviting us and the great support from Terry Moffett, Mike Pettenuzzo, BSN Sports for believing in us, sticking with us and the great support from Dr. Sam Minner, Provost Carol Linder, Vice President Max Baca. We believe that this is a new era for the New Cowboy Nation of New Mexico Highlands University. We will take this responsibility and move this environment in the most productive winning way that the NMHU community deserves” said Bob Clifford.
