Lobo women get commitment from San Antonio all-state player

The University of New Mexico women’s basketball team picked up its fourth verbal commitment in less than a week when Texas’ Antonia Anderson announced her intention to join the Lobos via Twitter.

Anderson is a 6-foot-2 senior guard/forward at Steele High School in Cibolo, a San Antonio suburb. Anderson averaged 12 points per game last season but put up 23 per game during her team’s run to the state semifinals. She played in last month’s Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A/6A All-Star Basketball Game and was an All-State selection as a junior.

According to a San Antonio Express-News story, Anderson had 11 Division I scholarship offers last month.

In her Twitter announcement Anderson thanked her parents, her high school coach and “all the colleges for the giving me the opportunity to play at the next level. Today I have decided to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of New Mexico. GO LOBOS!”

Anderson visited Albuquerque over the weekend with fellow Texans Tia Wright and Madison Washington. All three committed to UNM, joining Oregon’s N’Dea Flye, who committed Friday, and Roswell’s Jaedyn De La Cerda, who committed in May.
