ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico is celebrating homecoming this week with a bevy of events for both students, employees and alumni of the university.
For students, the university will host a silent disco on Thursday. Instead of blasting music from traditional speakers, participants don headphones and the music is beamed directly to the headsets provided. So if you see a crowd of students dancing in complete silence on campus, so no need to panic at this disco. The gathering will also feature a light show. The event is free for students, and runs from 8:30 to 11 p.m. Thursday. For more info, check out the Facebook page.
For faculty and staff who are UNM alums, the university will host a Wednesday luncheon at noon in the student union ballroom. Those who donate a nonperishable foot item will receive a 2016 commemorative UNM Homecoming pin. The event is limited to 300 people, and those interested should pick up their tickets at the Hodgin Hall Alumni Center.
The alumni association will host an open house and silent auction at Hodgin Hall from 5:30 to 8 p.m Friday. Proceeds will support the alumni’s scholarship fund and alumni programs. The association will also host a breakfast at 9 a.m. Saturday and a tailgate the same day from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the Lobo football game against San Jose State. And of course, UNM’s football team plays at 2 p.m. Saturday. The first 5,000 fans to arrive will receive a complimentary pair of Lobos sunglasses. And for more info on all the homecoming events this week, visit UNM’s site here.
