ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Credit card information being sought from people under the pretense their card has been deactivated
The Albuquerque Police Department is alerting people to be on guard because a phishing/scam operation is being used in an attempt to get credit card information.
Officer Robert Gibbs, an APD spokesman, said in a news release Tuesday that the department has received a report that someone has an operation that is auto-dialing telephones and with an automated script is attempting to gather credit card information under the pretense that the person’s card has been deactivated.
Gibbs said the department is advising that people not provide any credit card and/or bank account information over the telephone.
He said anyone who receives such a call is asked to contact their bank and/or credit card issuer.
