SANTA FE, N.M. — A Santa Fe woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly slashing the necks of her sons, ages 6 and 8, with a box-cutter knife.
Sherry Kay Resser, 39, faces two charges of attempted murder, two counts of child abuse and tampering with evidence, according to a news release from Santa Fe police.
The boys, one of whom needed multiple stitches, were treated at Christus St. Vincent Hospital before being released into the custody of the state Children Youth and Families Department, said Santa Fe Lt. Louis Carlos.
When Resser took the boys to the hospital earlier that day, she blamed their injuries on a family acquaintance, but recanted her story when the boys gave conflicting stories, the release said.
She later told officers she did it because she was afraid the devil would come for the boys, and that she wanted to kill them before somebody else hurt them worse.
