New State ECU branch under construction

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The very early stages of construction are underway on a new State ECU branch in Albuquerque, according to documents filed with the city’s Planning Department.

A site development plan filed in September 2016 calls for a 5,048-square-foot credit union with drive-thru lanes on the north side of Montgomery Boulevard, west of Carlisle, according to the city.

Other information on file with the planning department lists a project valuation of $800,000 for the new business now going up at 3521 Montgomery Blvd NE, near the I-25 interchange.

Calls to the Santa Fe-based credit union inquiring about an opening date and the number of jobs expected at the branch were not returned.

Previously known as State Employees Credit Union, the financial institution rebranded in early 2016 with a new name and logo. Its website lists one other branch doing business in Albuquerque, at 3451 Candelaria NE.

According to, State ECU is the eighth-largest credit union in the state. Established in 1958, the organization has grown to 140 full-time employees, 41,000 members and eight locations around the state. State ECU lists assets of $462.3 million.

And State ECU is not alone in plans for new branches. A parcel U.S. Eagle Credit Union owns at 7402 Menaul NE is slated to be home to that credit union’s eighth branch in the metro area. U.S. Eagle earlier confirmed its plan to break ground on the site early this year.
