ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police shot and killed a man in northeast Albuquerque early this afternoon, police said.
APD is investigating the shooting that occurred at about 2 p.m. in the 8100 block of Marquette NE, near Wyoming and Copper. The man’s family has identified him as Daniel Tillison, a.k.a. Oreo.
Police Chief Ray Schultz said in a media briefing that the man was approached by police as he was allegedly selling stolen stereo equipment in the area. There was a confrontation between the man and police, and he tried to flee in a vehicle.
Schultz said he ran into two cars, including a police vehicle, before an officer fired two rounds. One shot hit the car, and the other hit the man. He died on the scene.
The officer involved in the shooting has worked with APD since 1994, with the exception of a leave of absence when he was in the military, Schultz said. The officer was ok after the shooting.
