London Word, charged with killing Bazan

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Lucas Bazan, 31, died in a fight over $20 of methamphetamine last November. He ended up with his throat slashed and his body stuffed in a closet.

According to court records, London Word, 29, agreed to give Bazan some methamphetamine in return for letting him stay at his apartment on the 500 block of Mesilla SE.

But they began arguing after Bazan accused Word of “holding out.”

Word later confessed to his mother when she woke at her home to find him crying and covered in blood.

He said he stabbed Bazan, cut his throat and then put his body in a closet.

There was a “massive amount of blood” in the mother’s bedroom and bloody footprints leaving the room toward the front door, according to police.

Word said he stashed Bazan’s body in the closet and pushed a couch over to block the door. Then he went to his mother’s to tell her goodbye.

Word was charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He was ordered held on $100,000 cash-only bail, and the case was transferred to District Court.
