ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — If you won the lottery tonight, you would be getting approximately $20.7 million a year ($57,000 a day) for the next 26 years.
The Mega Millions jackpot hit $540 million on Friday, the world’s largest jackpot ever, according to the New Mexico Lottery’s website. If the winner chose the lump-sum pre-tax cash payment, they’d be looking at $389.8 million.
New Mexico Lottery said strong ticket sales nationwide have pushed the jackpot to its highest number. The previous record Mega Millions jackpot was $390 million won by players from Georgia and New Jersey in 2007.
Ticket sales for Friday’s jackpot are open until 8:45 p.m.
