Detectives arrested a 43-year-old man for giving his daughter and several other teenagers alcohol, and then sexually assaulting one of them, according to a spokeswoman for the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives followed up on a referral from the Children Youth and Families Department saying Ben Richard Aguilar had possibly raped a 15-year-old girl, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Felicia Romero said Wednesday. The report said the girl may not even be aware of the assault because Aguilar had given her a lot of alcohol at a party and she was drunk at the time of the incident.
“Interviews revealed corroborating information of the assault and the party,” Romero said. “Detectives then made contact with the female victim’s parents and assisted with getting medical care for the injuries sustained from the assault.”
Romero said that when detectives interviewed Aguilar, he admitted assaulting the girl. She said he told them he had recorded the assault on his phone, although he said he later destroyed the recording.
“What is noteworthy about this case is the fact that it was a delayed report from an anonymous source,” Romero said. “Detectives were able to get a reluctant victim statement six weeks post-incident.”
Aguilar was booked into the county jail, and charged with criminal sexual penetration and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
