UPDATED: ABQ Man Gets 10 Years in Child Porn Case

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says an Albuquerque man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for distributing child pornography. A federal judge sentenced 29-year-old Adam Goodsell Monday morning in Albuquerque.

Goodsell was indicted on Dec.15, 2010 and charged with advertising child pornography, distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. He was arrested later that month and has been in federal custody since that time.

Federal prosecutors say Goodsell was charged as a result of a joint state, federal and Canadian government investigation initiated after a detective of the Winnipeg Canadian Police, who was acting in an undercover capacity, obtained access to Goodsell’s account on a file-sharing program, and found 21 folders with 82,000 files of child pornography that were available for distribution to others.

An Albuquerque man will be sentenced to 10 years in prison under a plea agreement in which he pleaded guilty to a child pornography offense, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.

Adam Goodsell, 29, pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Albuquerque to distribution of a visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

The news release said that under terms of the plea agreement, Goodsell also will be sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release after he completes his prison term, as well as having to register as a sex offender.

A date for Goodsell’s sentencing hearing was not immediately set, according to the news release.

Goodsell had been charged in a three-count indictment with advertising child pornography, distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography. He pleaded guilty to the distribution charge and the other two counts will be dismissed after he is sentenced, according to the news release.

The news release said that according to Goodsell’s plea agreement, a forensic examination of Goodsell’s computers and computer-related media seized by authorities during an Aug. 20, 2010, search of his residence found thousands of image files and video files of child pornography.

An investigation of Goodsell was begun after a detective of the Winnipeg Canadian Police, acting in an undercover capacity, obtained access to Goodsell’s account on a file-sharing program and found 21 folders with 82,171 files of child pornography that were available for distribution to others, the news release said. Goodsell distributed one of those child pornography images to the undercover detective on Aug. 12, 2010.

Goodsell has been in federal custody since his arrest on Dec. 17, 2010, and will remain in custody pending his sentencing hearing, the news release said.
