ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — One man was killed and another was critically wounded in a stabbing in a Rio Rancho neighborhood last week, according to police.
Capt. Ron Vigil, a spokesman for the Rio Rancho Police Department, said officers were called to reports of a fight and shots fired around 10:30 p.m. Friday at a home on Eventide SE, which is near Unser and Idalia.
When officers arrived, they didn’t find any shooting victims. Instead, they found two men had been stabbed.
One of them, 23-year-old Kenneth Torres, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other was rushed to a local hospital where he was still in critical condition Wednesday.
Vigil did not identify the second victim, and it’s unclear what led up to the killing.
In an email sent out Wednesday, Vigil said nobody is in custody for the stabbing but detectives have some leads.
“There are a number of persons of interest and this is an open and active investigation,” Vigil said in the email.
He also said detectives “recovered” the victim’s vehicle, but didn’t clarify whether that means the vehicle had been stolen before police found it.
“We have recovered the victim’s vehicle and are currently processing this and other search warrants,” he said.
Vigil asked anyone with information about the stabbing to call (505) 891-5938.
