Red Door, Poki Poki coming to NE Heights

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Northeast Heights is about to get its own Red Door Brewing and Poki Poki Cevicheria restaurant.

A new development under construction at the southwest corner of Wyoming and Comanche also will include other retailers and restaurants whose names have not been released.

Red Door Brewing opened in September 2014 in Albuquerque’s “Brewery District,” on Candelaria between Interstate 25 and Edith.  It quickly opened a second location Downtown on Gold Avenue.  This will be the local brewery’s third location.

“It’s an underserved area of town,” said Red Door co-owner Matt Biggs. “It will be nice to work in an area where there aren’t a ton of breweries.”

The Red Door taproom will be roughly 2,000-square feet and, while it will not serve food, Briggs hopes it will work in conjunction with Poki Poki, which will open next door.

Poki Poki, a Latin-Asian fusion restaurant, has one other location, at 2300 Central SE, in the university’s “Brick Light District.” The year-old restaurant specializes in fish and rice, served in a Poké bowl.  The Poké bowl is traditionally associated with Hawaii.

“We try to as much as possible to infuse Latin, Hawaiian, Japanese (flavors),” owner Robert Punya said.

Coe & Peterson, a local commercial real estate firm that owns the building, could not be reached for comment on when construction will be completed.

Update: Tenee Swingle, the leasing agent handling the development, said the exterior facade is planned to be completed by the end of May.
