Just like President Trump’s approach to tariffs “was akin to killing an ant with a sledgehammer,” taking a chainsaw to the federal GOVERNMENT WORKERS is akin to killing it by a thousand cuts. Destruction without knowing or caring about the consequences can be devastating in the long run. MY
According to liberal left, seizing legal guns is worth it if it saves one life. By logical extension, if removing all ILLEGAL ALIENS saves one life, it’s also worth it. Which is it, saving lives, or control over the population/swelling of democratic voter pools? Can’t have it both ways. TS
Forrest Gump figured out “Shrimpin’ is tough!” much faster than President Trump is figuring out that “ENDING WAR is tough.” Run Trump Run. JR
I’m saddened we have abandoned the people of UKRAINE. We have the ability to help her citizens, and chose not to. I’m sure they would be willing to “make a deal” to survive and keep their freedom. What happened to our democratic values? Gone with the world’s respect? NK
Following the hottest year in human history, President Trump is working to gut key CLIMATE agencies, he ditched the Paris climate agreement, and has taken executive action to boost planet-wrecking coal, gas, and oil, including declaring a national energy emergency. No understanding. WS
Regarding “Trump’s lack of respect for law drives Republicans from party” (Apr. 27 Journal): Retired APD deputy Chief Paul Chavez nailed it when he said President Trump is driving away REPUBLICANS. For sure Trump is driving away the moderate Republicans for all the reasons Chavez states. Great op ed! RF
President Trump’s appearance at the pope’s funeral only highlighted his direct opposition to everything POPE FRANCIS endorsed and stood for. Francis called for caring and material aid for the dispossessed and oppressed. President Trump practices the exact opposite, most obviously in his shutting down of USAID. BH
President Donald Trump could use a better fashion adviser. Then he might have blended in better at the FUNERAL of the Pope and not stood out in his everyday blue suit amid a sea of dark clad mourners. At least he could have found a black tie to show some respect. JJ
FYI, it might be appropriate for RFK Jr’s mission to take the name MAHA. The word maha in some New Mexico Indigenous languages is slang for excrement. JB
Democrat Hillary Clinton violated government computer security rules. Republican Pete Hegseth violated GOVERNMENT COMPUTER SECURITY rules. What do they have in common? Being entitled politicians. JPO
Regarding “US, NM should act boldly on quantum development” (Apr. 19 Journal): Former Gov. Susana Martinez’s excellent QUANTUM TECHNOLOGIES article describes how NM could help lead America into the 21st century, change NM’s economy, and restore America’s global power/leadership. Meanwhile, Trump wants to restore Industrial Revolution era factories, taking years and billions to build and which AI and robotics would render obsolete. JEG
Regarding “City Councilor mischaracterized mayor, rally” (Apr. 27 Journal): Diane Denish’s editorial did not defend Mayor TIM KELLER. Over $100 million has been spent on the Gateway Center, which aims to serve 1,000 people daily, but the city hasn’t released actual outcomes. Despite this spending, homelessness persists. Albuquerque Community Safety often still relies on police assistance, raising concerns about its effectiveness. SR
A work colleague decided to try ABQ RIDE to save money and help the environment, but on the first attempt they skipped that intended bus. What a memorable first impression. BV
Why is the EJOURNAL print totally unreadable? One page of print is sharp, easy to read, while the next is completely faded, including pictures. I’ve given up trying to read this paper. CM
As heartless as it seems, please stop giving to BEGGARS at our streets corners. If they won’t find it profitable, they will move on and look elsewhere. Donate to supportive organizations like the Roadrunner Food Bank, HHH, One Albuquerque Fund, Hopeworks, Barrett Foundation, or any other homeless charity of your choice. DS
I went to ARROYO to watch the Metro Golf championship. I couldn’t believe the condition of the course these top high school players had to play in. Parks & Recreation should be embarrassed with the course conditions. Fairways with little grass and just deplorable facilities. Come on mayor fix it... WE
We need more people crying about a brown GOLF COURSE in the desert while we are in the middle of a drought. That might help with the irrigation bills and water shortages. JG
I don’t understand the fascination the city and home owners have for denuding all VEGETATION from property. The city repeatedly sprays herbicide along sidewalks and streets to create a landscape of bare ground. This contributes to blowing dust and ugly roadways. We need some vegetation to prevent soil loss. CB
